genres by definition are a style or category of art, music, literature or any other piece of media. there are many categories and genres present when it comes to movies. few of the very famous ones are: drama, romance, thriller, action, horror, slice-of-life, comedy, psychological, romance comedies, sci-fi, adventure, fantasy, psychological thrillers and many more.
after the research we found out that our opening sequence would be a psychological thriller if we are making an opening sequence about child abuse and mental illnesses. here are a few psychological thrillers, out of which we will analyse 2 of theirs opening sequence.

a psychological thriller does come under the thriller category, and mainly emphasizes on the mental state of the protagonist which is most of the times delusional or unstable. characters often have complex and unstable relationships in psychological movies. psychological movies can also be scary sometimes but there is also a whole different genre called psychological horror which is different than psychological thrillers.
Peter Hutchings defines psychological thrillers as, "narratives with domesticated settings in which action is suppressed and where thrills are provided instead via investigations of the psychologies of the principal characters." A distinguishing characteristic of a psychological thriller is it emphasizes the mental states of its characters: their perceptions, thoughts, distortions, and general struggle to grasp reality.
psychological thriller is also one of favourite genre. if helps people without mental illnesses understand how tough it can be living with an mental illness and also help spread awareness so more people can get help, as mental health was not regarded so important at least a decade a go. although psychological thrillers can be triggering for those who suffer from a similar or same mental illness.
